“Balance” lamp
“Balance” is a conceptual lamp that reflects the tension between individuality and society norms and expectations. A translucent organic cylinder glows from within, symbolizing the human soul, while a rigid metal frame surrounds it, representing external expectations. The form is pinched and stretched outward until it fixes against the frame, a physical metaphor of how individuals are often reshaped to conform.
The design directly critiques the pressure to fit into societal norms. Where most lamps aim for harmony, “Balance” highlights distortion—what happens when free, soft forms are forced into rigid boundaries. The result is an expressive silhouette that is both sculptural and unsettling, confronting the viewer with the cost of conformity.
“Balance” also embraces sustainable production. The frame is delivered as a compact modular structure, while the organic shade is provided as a digital file for local 3D printing in recycled or biodegradable filament. This reduces transportation, allows easy replacement, and enables personal variation—each piece can carry its own “deformation,” reinforcing the narrative of individuality.
More than illumination, “Balance” is a critical object that merges light, form, and commentary. It serves not only as a lamp but as an art sculpture reminder of the fragile equilibrium between self-expression and the pressures of a rigid society.
